The first Consortium meeting of the Competen-SEA project was hosted in Madrid by Universidad Madrid Carlos III between 24-25 October 2016. Delegates from all ten partner institutions joined the meeting in order to lay the groundwork for the three-year project.
The two-day meeting was kicked off with presentations made by each of the project partners, introducing their institution by covering particularly related past, ongoing work, other related activities and their involvement in the project work packages. The goal of this session was to reach a mutual understanding between the organizations and the people participating in the consortium.
The following session was dedicated to discussing the aims of the project and agree on the planning of the first project year. Work package leaders introduced the work plan for the first year of their work package in order to come to a shared consensus about the activities in each work package. Next, work package leaders went with a subset of the consortium to breakout rooms to discuss low-hanging fruits, opportunities and strategic goals for each work package. The session ended with the presentation of the outcomes from Breakout session by work package leaders to the plenary. The consortium partners became aware of chances and challenges within the project and committed to shared objectives and outcomes.
The second day was mainly dedicated to presenting and discussing administrative issues, meeting schedule planning, reporting and cost claim procedure, and agreeing on working methods and communication channels.
The meeting concluded with a visit to the MOOC Studio guided by the host partner – Universidad Madrid Carlos III.
