Basic Supplies for Needlepoint
What we send when you order a needlepoint kit from us:
- Needlepoint Canvas: The canvas types we use is mono deluxe, the best of the types of needlepoint canvas otherwise also called scrim. Mono deluxe needlepoint canvas comes in different mesh sizes; otherwise referred to as a count as it is the number of holes per inch with a higher number indicating smaller holes. Choose the mesh size based on your project—smaller mesh sizes are typically used for more intricate designs, while larger mesh, such as 14 count is ideal for beginners.
- Threads: Needlepoint is completed with a variety of fibers, such as wool, cotton, and silk; specialty threads made from bamboo or straw or metallic, as well as others are now readily available as well. Easy-to-use, beautiful silks are commonly used for most projects due to its range of colors, good for all skill levels, and the more durable of all the threads we stitch with. from different thicknesses with wool being the thicker, a silk/merino wool blend more compatible with stitching with silk, and the choice depends on you, the design you are working.
- Needles: A blunt-tipped needle is essential for needlepoint. This ensures that the yarn can easily be pulled through the canvas without fraying. We send a substantial gold needle that is vey easy to thread.
- Scissors: A sharp pair of scissors will be necessary for cutting neatly. It’s a good idea to use embroidery scissors for the best precision. We send a scissor with every kit for free.
- Frame: While not absolutely necessary, using a frame or stretcher bars will help keep your canvas taut as you stitch, making the process much easier and more enjoyable.
