FAQ
Why use silk?
There are a variety of reasons we go to silk threads for many of our canvases.
The silk can be used without complications or trouble for every level of stitcher, including people who have never stitched before.
Silk is the more durable of all the threads we stitch with and many people who stitch our canvases make things that they use (benches, stools, chair seats to be upholstered, rugs, pillows, handbags etc), rather than framing.
The silk is used for the art work that adorns the canvases for a few reasons. One is the large choice of color.
One is that it lays flat and renders a painterly stitching so that the canvas looks like a painting from a distance.
One is that the thread can be used as is or pliable so you can change the density of the stitch or blend colors together.
We do have a silk merino wool blend thread. It is a good weight and will lie flat unlike wool, but it doesn’t have the extensive range of color that the silks have.
People who use silk for the first time become converted to it from cotton, and often choose the silk instead of wool for future projects with us because it is a wonderful thread to use.
You will love using the silk.
